Award 1: The Healthier Scotland Award, sponsored by the healthyliving award in association with Healthier Scotland

Criteria:
The Healthier Scotland Award invites nominations from all sectors of the industry, including workplace restaurants, further education establishments and high street outlets. This award will recognise individuals or organisations which have made an outstanding contribution to supporting and promoting healthier eating, and for making it easier for people to eat healthily. Evidence will be required to show how healthier eating practices have been supported and nurtured within the establishment, and can include examples of menus, press cuttings or initiatives aimed at encouraging healthier eating and incorporating a health culture into the operation of the business.
A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 2: The Innovation in Training Award, co-sponsored by People 1st & Xpress Recruitment

Criteria:
Nominations are sought from all sectors of the industry, including hotels, restaurants, colleges, universities, company training schemes, industry training partnerships and state-supported training organisations.

The winning organisation will have promoted a culture that views training and development as an integral part of the business. Evidence will be required to support the nomination and should include a training structure, examples of staff development and access to certification, qualifications, and external recognition. The winning organisation will also have demonstrated active involvement in the development, design and evaluation of an innovative training programme or initiative. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 3: The Pub-Restaurant Excellence Award, co-sponsored by Hilton Glasgow & MCL

Criteria:
Nominations are invited from pub-restaurants, including gastropubs and family-friendly establishments, where the emphasis on the preparation, presentation and service of quality, wholesome dishes is an integral part of the business. Nominations should state in 100–150 words how the establishment addresses food trends and demonstrates a varied usage of sustainable products, seasonality and innovation within their menu.

Supporting documentation may include pub-restaurant menus, newspaper and trade reviews and articles, and customer feedback forms. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 4: The Contract Catering Chef of the Year Award, co-sponsored by Blue Arrow Catering and Caterer.com

Criteria:
The winner of this award will be responsible for the delivery of a quality food and/or hospitality service to clients in a staff restaurant.
Nominations are invited from chefs working in catering units within the contract catering sector. Nominees should be hands-on and have made a positive difference in the day-to-day operations of the contract. The Contract Catering Chef of the Year should be an individual who has consistently demonstrated creativity, flair and a passion for fresh food, evidenced by innovative and nutritionally balanced menus.
The winner will have an excellent track record of working relationships with fellow colleagues, customers and clients, showing commitment and enthusiasm in meeting customer expectations.
Supplementary information to support nominations may include client- company references, records of relevant personal and team development, and external recognition. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 5: The Food-Tourism Award, co-sponsored by Charlton House

Criteria:
This award recognises the increased importance of food-tourism to the Scottish economy. Nominations are invited from all sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry, including local and national businesses and initiatives with a strong food bias. Evidence to support the nomination may include information on the development of the business from original concept through to current activities, as well as future expansion plans and an evaluation of its success in promoting as a quality destination a local area or Scotland as a whole. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 6: The Restaurant Newcomer of the Year Award, co-sponsored by ASA Recruitment & Sodexo

Criteria:
Open to restaurants under three years old across all sectors of the industry, including those within hotels, the award will recognise the establishment which has most captured the imagination and attention of the industry, public and media, becoming one of the hottest establishments within its sector. Nominees should provide evidence to support their entries, including menus, wine lists, media coverage and information on how they have achieved a sound reputation for the quality of their food and service. A clear commitment to innovation, customer satisfaction and staff-training and development will also be taken into consideration. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 7: The Award for Excellence in Hospitality Education, co-sponsored by Motherwell College

Criteria:
The Award for Excellence in Hospitality Education invites nominations from either a department or faculty within an educational institution, or from an individual holding an appointment in any hospitality discipline within a given institution.
The award is recognises the outstanding contribution that Scotland’s universities and colleges play in supporting learning and hospitality-skills development throughout the country. A submission of 100–150 words should detail how the nominee inspires and encourages students towards career opportunities within the hospitality industry. Supplementary information should be submitted to support the nomination. Short-listed entries will be visited or interviewed by a member or members of the Awards Advisory Board. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 8: The Hotel of the Year Award, sponsored by ARAMARK

Criteria:
The Hotel of the Year will be a successful establishment located in Scotland, either independently owned or as part of a UK-based brand. The winning hotel will have a 100% commitment to customer service and will recognise the importance of staff and skills-development as an essential part of the business. The establishment will demonstrate a clear understanding of guest satisfaction across all departments. Supporting materials should be submitted, including press cuttings, trade articles, customer testimonials, previous accolades and evidence of an ongoing commitment to excellence across all areas of operation. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 9: The Restaurant of the Year Award, sponsored by Unilever Foodsolutions

Criteria:
The winning restaurant will have placed culinary skills, service and the professionalism of all their staff, both front and back of house, at the forefront of the operation. The restaurant will have received customer endorsements and previous accolades for food and service. Nominees/entrants must demonstrate consistent flair and a commitment to creativity, together with a ‘no-compromise’ policy in the selection of raw materials, cooking methods and presentation of dishes. The winning restaurant will have demonstrated the standards and qualities necessary to enhance Scotland’s reputation for food and service, both nationally and internationally. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted.

Award 10: The Chef of the Year Award, sponsored by BaxterStorey

Criteria:
The Chef of the Year will be consistently renowned for setting trends and breaking new ground. He/she will posses outstanding technical skills enabling them to show a flair for cooking which clearly distinguishes them from their contemporaries. The winner will be someone whose hard work, professionalism and dedication are above the norm and who supports the development of the profession for the benefit of the industry as a whole. The Chef of the Year will have received external recognition for their commitment to the industry, and be acknowledged as an outstanding chef by his or her peers. A maximum of six A4 pages of substantiating evidence may be submitted, including CVs, client and/or employer references, evidence of previous achievements and accolades, and colleague or peer testimonials.

Award 11: The Lifetime Excellence Award, sponsored by Braehead Foods

Criteria:
The Lifetime Excellence Award is the ultimate accolade bestowed upon any individual within the catering, hospitality and tourism industry. The winner will be an outstanding personality who has over the course of their career demonstrated exceptional commitment to improving hospitality, catering and tourism in Scotland. He/she will have made a significant contribution to the industry and posses a celebrated reputation for exemplary service for over 25 years, and they will have used their experience and knowledge to promote, develop, aid and influence Scotland’s future talent. Potential recipients’ names to be submitted for consideration by the Awards Advisory Board (no substantiating evidence required for this category).
